Welcome back for another edition of In Case You Missed It, our monthly retrospective look into the happenings in the Imgur community. We’ll cover community events, heartwarming stories, unique creations, and updates from the folks here at HQ.
Let’s get started!
*Halloween Costume Contest*
This year saw our largest turnout for the Costume Contest so far. Thousands of Imgurians graced our screens with the most ghoulish of getups, gourdgeous pumpkin carvings, and delectably demonic decor. Take a peek at the roundup post to see how things shook out!
Check out the #CostumeContest2022 tag to see all of the spine-chilling costumes you may have missed.
*World Mental Health Day*
Oct. 10 marked World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness and advocate against social stigmas on mental issues. We encouraged the community to celebrate by sharing advice, positive affirmations, or simply showing support. Hundreds of Imgurians did exactly that and more. From heartfelt posts thanking their peers for hearing them out, to infographics, resources, and advice, there was no shortage of positive vibes.
Stop by #MentalHealthDay to check out all of the great things Imgurians shared.
*Black Cat Day*
Cats have always been a staple on Imgur, but for one day, our dark-furred friends took the spotlight. Black cats are often associated with bad luck and various superstitions, and the goal of this day is to help rid the world of those negative preconceptions. Nearly one thousand black cats were shared that day, and millions of Imgurians migrated to the Black Cat tag to celebrate alongside the owners.

*Skittles for Science*
The internet is a magical place for many reasons, but the ability to indulge your curiosities and share them with the world ranks as one of its best uses. Imgurian @Ultimasummer wanted to see how skittles are distributed by flavor, and they decided to take us on the journey with us.
Every day a new pack of skittles was emptied and counted, with data and tables provided every ten. To date, 27 containers of skittles have been counted, and we patiently await the 30-day data.

*Cosplay a Day*
For the entire month of Spooktober, Imgurians @Josiemarcellino and @AlsoAshley shared costumes daily. Every single one of their posts made Most Viral this month, cementing them as staples of the cosplay community.
Between unconventional looks like the Kool-Aid man to comic book classics from Marvel and DC, these two titans of cosplay did not disappoint. We hope this trend continues next year, and we can’t wait to see what you both create from here!
*Imgurian LYFT passenger*
In what they call “fishing for Imgurians,” @Thanksforl mentions Imgur in most conversations and encounters with new people. It’s always exciting to meet another Imgurian in the wild. @Thanksforl drives for LYFT and meets all kinds of people in their travels.
This month they had the pleasure of picking up an Imgurian to take them to the airport. After a few minutes of fun conversation, they went their separate ways without exchanging usernames. With any luck, they will reconnect on the site and strike up another nice conversation.

*I (We) Did a Thing!*
When Imgurian @BubblesIsntSure was a kid, his passion for fishing was ignited by a chance encounter helping a stranger with a catch. In a full circle moment, he enlisted the help of two random passers-by to catch the biggest fish of his life. This father and son duo would approach cautiously, just asking to watch. They jumped right in when their assistance was requested, though.
After the catch, they got talking, and the son is an Imgurian! Their phones had died, and they were unable to exchange usernames, but @BubblesIsntSure promised to share images and video of the ordeal, and with any luck, they’ll come across it.

*Dead Space Brace* Back in July, @Dunothar‘s plate armor and chain mail post was a category winner for “Parts and Crafts” in the Field Day event. Fast forward to this month, and his creative exploits made most viral. After being diagnosed with a spinal condition, leg braces and spinal support became necessary.
When he got a good look at them, he noticed a certain sci-fi exoskeleton aesthetic. In a request to the community, he asked for ideas on how to customize the brace to fit his newfound vision. Hundreds of Imgurians took to the comments to provide ideas and cheer him on.
